Print page

WorldSkills UKregistration is now open and we would like you to know what it takes to get through the competition. This way you can talk to your employer about your time out of work as it’s not as time consuming as you might think

This year is squad selection year so anyone who enters under the age of 25 is in with a chance of being selected to represent the UK at international competition. That doesn’t mean older students and apprentices shouldn’t enter, those of you that are over 25 can still win gold at the national stages. So what are the steps you need to take?

1.Register

Registration is open from the 28th of February to the 1st April. Your training provider or employer can nominate you so you can register your interest here: Aircraft Maintenance Competition – WorldSkills UK When filling out your details please enter them correctly as this information will become part of your log in and the passive stage will be emailed to the email address provided.

2.Passive Stage

The passive stage is in April and it will be an online multiple-choice test. This will be emailed to the contact detail you have provided and you will have 2 weeks to start it but once you start you must complete it in one go. For this reason, only start it when you know you have the time to concentrate.

3.National Qualifiers

The highest scores of the passive stage will join us for the National qualifiers at College Cambria. This will be up to 36 entrants, the reason this can vary is due to there being a minimum score in place. This will take place the week of the 9th– 13th May, actual date will be confirmed with you personally via email.

4. Announcement of Finalists

Finalists will be announced on the 6th and 7th of July. The top 6-8 finalist will now prepare for the final in November

5. Training and development

In the lead up to the competition there will be resources and training available to you to develop your skills before the final. It is great to have free resources that will benefit you and your business, and it will ensure that you are aware of the types of things you will need to know when it comes to the final.

6. National Finals – You made it!

In November 2022 you will spend 2 days competing against the other finalists to become the best aircraft maintenance engineer in the UK. There will be only a few tasks between you and a medal, but no matter where you place reaching a World Skills UK final is a great achievement in itself.

7. Squad UK – those under the age of 25 could make squad and visit Lyon for international competition

Think of World Skills as the skills Olympics. You will have gone through the training and competitions to be the best in the UK. Once you have got to this point you will be able to improve on this further, being trained by some of the best to be ready to compete against the rest of the world.

This doesn’t happen every year but 2022 is a selection year so now is the best time to compete to be in with a chance of getting to Lyon, France. You’ve got this!

It’s SO simple to apply, the total amount of time you need to dedicate is less than 3 days until you make it to Squad. What have you got to lose?
