The Secretary of State for Education is seeking to recruit a new chair of the board of the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. The Department is seeking applications from senior business or public sector figures whose organisations recruit through a range of entry routes, who employ a significant number of apprentices and who understand the challenges and opportunities faced by businesses following the technical education reforms.
The successful candidate will have a passion for apprenticeships and technical education and will be able to guide the Institute in its next phase of development. They will be committed to empowering employers to develop world leading apprenticeships and technical education that can unlock everyone’s potential across the economy. In addition they must:
- Be a current or very recent employer who has the very high profile and credibility needed to champion the Institute’s mission.
- Have exceptional leadership skills, with an outstanding track record of providing strategic direction, effective decision making, driving delivery and governance oversight at senior board level in a complex and high-profile environment.
Because the Secretary of State is committed to ensuring that public appointments better represent the views of the communities which they serve, he is particularly keen to receive applications from people who have these qualities and are from under-represented groups, based outside London and the South East or who have achieved success through non-traditional educational routes.
The closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 1st February. Further information, including a video message from the Secretary of State and details of how to apply can be found on the Public Appointments website at https://bit.ly/IfATEchair
