Seminar and Networking Social

In celebration of the International Day of LGBTQIA+ People in STEM, The Royal Aeronautical Society is proud to host a free half-day seminar to celebrate the work of Pride networks and LGBTQIA+ aerospace, space and aviation professionals.  The seminar will be followed by a free to attend networking social with live entertainment at the Society’s prestigious London headquarters.

Introduction

The Royal Aeronautical Society knows that neither it nor the wider aerospace, space and aviation community are fully reflective of wider society. However, the Society is committed and determined to change that. The business and legal reasons for doing so are well known, but the most important reason for doing so is that, morally, it is simply the right thing to do. Talent and a passion for aerospace, space and aviation should be the only prerequisites for success in our community.

In summer 2021, the Society hosted and LGBTQ+ roundtable event with a number of our corporate partners across the sector to consider what more can be done to support LGTBQIA+ aerospace, space and aviation professionals.  This seminar builds on that roundtable event, seeking to bring together a larger audience of those with an interest in supporting our LGTBQIA+ community.

Seminar

The free Seminar will run from 1400 to 1730 in the Bill Boeing Lecture Theatre. In this event we will explore the following themes:

  • How do employer Pride and Employee Resource Groups support LGBTQIA+ colleagues.
  • What good practice exists for such groups.
  • How do smaller organisations support their LGBTQIA+ workers.
  • What particular challenges do members of the Trans community face and how can we address them.
  • How do we improve LGBTQIA+ inclusion in academia.
  • The particular impact of intersectionality for individuals in the sector.

Networking Social

From 1745 there will be free networking reception in the Argyll Room and, weather permitting, on the covered terrace overlooking Hyde Park. The reception will feature a short keynote talk from a senior industry figure and the President of the Society.

The free drinks and canape reception will continue after the keynote, with live entertainment provided from 1900.  We are very pleased to welcome British Airways’ very own singing pilot and performer, Stuart Beech.

This free event is open to all but will be of particular interest to the following groups:

  • LGBTQIA+ aerospace, space and aviation professionals
  • Allies and Line Managers of LGBTQIA+ professionals
  • Those running employer Pride and/or Employee Resource Groups
  • Human Resources and EDI Managers
