Other Relevant Engineering Options
In addition to aerospace and aeronautical engineering degrees, there are a number of other specialist engineering courses which relate to the Aerospace sector. These include programmes such as:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electronics/electrical Engineering
- Systems Engineering degrees.
There are also degrees specifically designed for the space industry such as:
- Aeronautics and astronautics
- Space Systems
- Satellite Engineering
And for budding space scientists, courses such as Astrophysics will enable you to study space and work with engineers to get the appropriate apparatus to enable investigations further and further into space.
Finally, there are also some engineering degrees which combine pilot studies - usually to PPL level but more and more course are looking at including further levels of professional flight training alongside the degree programme.
Even if you don't want to become a pilot, spending some time in the air or on a simulator is useful to gain an understanding of pilot requirements and how to incorporate these in the aircraft design process.
